National Park Centre
Zernez is the gateway to the National Park. Here you will find the National Park administration in the Planta-Wildenberg Castle, the Auditorium Schlossstall right next door and the National Park Centre on the opposite side of the road.
We recommend a stop at the National Park Centre before a hike in the protected area. The National Park wilderness exhibition lets you experience the Park’s nature first hand. The special exhibition, which changes every year, invites you to explore.
The staff at the information desk will provide you with information about hikes, guided excursions, events and the condition of the hiking trails. The Zernez Guest Information Centre is also located in the National Park Centre. Welcome to the centre!
Hike and discover
With its 100 km network of 21 trails, the Swiss National Park is a paradise for hiking and animal observations.
To be able to fully appreciate the wonders of our natural world it is essential that visitors familiarise themselves with the Park’s protection regulations and the condition of the hiking trails before setting out.
Many hikes involve greater differences in altitude and lead above the tree line. The mobile phone network does not cover the entire park area. Sudden changes in the weather or drops in temperature require good preparation and equipment. Our hiking trails are not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.
Let one of our expert guides accompany you through the National Park or hire binoculars for your observations at the National Park Centre in Zernez. With the National Park app, you also have the most important information with you offline.
Accommodation and arrival
The National Park is easily accessible by public transport or by car. For the sake of the environment, we strongly recommend the use of the train and bus services. This also enables visitors to make interesting excursions that set out from and end at different points.
Overnight stays within the National Park are possible in the Cluozza hut or in the Hotel il Fuorn on the Ofenpass road. Outside the park, accommodation is available in all price categories.

„Today’s children are tomorrow’s adults.“
To become responsible and caring adults, it is essential that our children are given the opportunity to experience and appreciate the natural world. Studying the natural world and encouraging early contact with and awareness of thereof, is a mission that every national park takes very seriously. Alongside the environmental programme open to all visitors, we also have various special offers for schoolchildren and educational institutions. You can find more information under the respective link.
Schmelzra museum
Silver and lead ore were mined in the remote Val S-charl for over 300 years. The Schmelzra Museum in S-charl provides an impressive insight into the history of mining. Guided tours of the tunnels are also possible. The National Park runs its bear exhibition on the upper floor. The bear discovery trail Senda da l’uors can be found in the vicinity of the Schmelzra.
Infomobile
In summer and autumn, our Infomobile provides on-site advice in the heart of the National Park.
In the Infomobile we answer your questions about the National Park and offer various information documents such as brochures, maps, hiking guides and identification books. We also stock a small selection of souvenirs.
The Infomobile is often parked near the Hotel Parc Naziunal Il Fuorn, on the Pass dal Fuorn road or at the entrance to the Val Trupchun near S-chanf.
