This agile climber and busy gatherer is common in our coniferous forests.
The squirrel builds a ball-shaped nest. When food is abundant it stores provisions in hidden places. Little heaps of pine cones remains are usually the leftovers of squirrel meals. The squirrel is a diurnal animal – active during the day. It does not hibernate.
Beside the common dark brown squirrel, every now and again the reddish-brown variety may also be seen in our forests.
