Common mezereon (Daphne mezereum) and striated mezereon (Daphne striata): both these daphne species are small shrubs, and are poisonous. In the National Park, striated mezereon is the more common of the two, in particular in the mountain pine forests.
Common mezereon blooms as early as the end of April/beginning of May, long before it has any leaves. In autumn, the bushes carry round, scarlet-red berries.
In the mountain pine forests of the National Park, striated mezereon is one of the most common flowering plants. In June, the air is filled with its fragrance. Its berries are brownish-orange and oval.
