Les deux sexes portent des cornes semblables. Celles de la femelle sont moins \u00e9paisses et leurs crochets sont en g\u00e9n\u00e9ral moins prononc\u00e9s. Comme l\u2018indique leur nom, les cornes se composent de substances corn\u00e9es, comme nos ongles. Elles poussent tout au long de la vie et ne tombent jamais.<\/p>\n<p>Les sabots des chamois, durs \u00e0 l&rsquo;ext\u00e9rieur et mous au centre, sont particuli\u00e8rement bien adapt\u00e9s aux rochers et aux falaises. Cette combinaison conf\u00e8re une bonne adh\u00e9rence et a servi autrefois de mod\u00e8le aux souliers de montagne.<\/p>\n<p>Les boucs fr\u00e9quentent l\u2019\u00e9tage alpin, mais \u00e9galement les for\u00eats de montagne. Ils y trouvent suffisamment de nourriture et d\u2019opportunit\u00e9s pour se cacher. En cas de fuite pr\u00e9cipit\u00e9e, il arrive que les jeunes chevreaux perdent contact avec le troupeau. Les combats entre les m\u00e2les avec leurs cornes pointues peuvent, dans de rares cas, se terminer par la mort d&rsquo;un des rivaux.<\/p>\n<p>Les chamois communiquent par la vue et l&rsquo;ou\u00efe, ainsi qu\u2019avec l&rsquo;odorat qui joue un r\u00f4le essentiel. Une glande \u00e0 la base post\u00e9rieure des cornes permet aux m\u00e2les de marquer leur territoire en d\u00e9posant sur les branches une s\u00e9cr\u00e9tion musqu\u00e9e. Chaque odeur est sp\u00e9cifique \u00e0 l&rsquo;individu et permet de communiquer. En cas de menace, ils se retirent dans les falaises, les pierriers ou parmi les pins couch\u00e9s. Ils s\u2019enfuient beaucoup plus vite en sentant une odeur \u00e9trange qu\u2019\u00e0 la vue d\u2018un objet \u00e9trange. Les chamois s\u00e9journent en altitude \u00e9galement en hiver.
