Research project

Impact of the Spöl eflood to the Inn river sediment regime

Agostini Ludovico and Molnar Peter from the ETH Zurich

Initial situation

For the river Inn, unique to any river system in the Alps, the upstream conditions of sediment feed are rapidly changing for the extra input of fine sediments from the Spöl eflood and for the additional input of gravel from the Spöl recent aggrading trajectory.

Goal

The project will be able to explain past trends and to predict the effects that the Spöl recent aggradation and increased sediment supply, will have on the Inn morphology and sediment. At the end of the project we will also be able to map the depositional hotspots and the new areas of intense sediment transport, this will help to prepare for a better sediment management by the EKW and will also help to restore and improve the ecological situation fo the Inn river.

Project duration

from March 2025 To July 2026
